Monumental Architecture and Urban Planning: Temples
In Egypt ancient Egyptians believed that temples were the homes of gods and goddesses. Every temple was dedicated to a god and a goddess and he or she was worshiped by the temple priests and the pharaoh. The large temple buildings were made of stone so that they would last forever. Their walls were covered with scenes that were carved onto the stone then brightly painted. These scenes showed the pharaoh fighting in battles and performing rituals with the gods and goddesses.
Temple of Luxor, Egypt. The temple of Luxor is close to the Nile and parallel with the riverbank. King Amenhotep III who reigned 1390-53 BC built this beautiful temple and dedicated it to Amon-Re, king of the gods, his consort Mut, and their son Khons.
