Monumental Architecture and Urban Planning: Pyramids
Pyramids originated from Egypt. These were built to be tombs for deceased pharos. The pyramids began before 2686 BCE and ended around 1650 BCE. The word pyramid comes fro the Greek word Pyramis. Pyramis means "wheat cake". The Greeks used this word to describe the pyramids because the Greeks were reminded of pointy wheat cakes. The most common and well-preserved pyramids to this day are the three pyramids at Giza. Today there are roughly 80 pyramids in Egypt. Almost all of the pyramids of Egypt are all located near Cairo. Kings of the New Kingdom decided they should have tombs hidden, rather than being in plain sight.
